In early August 1960 my family departed New York on American Export Line's SS Constitution for a 6 day crossing to Naples.
Our ultimate destination was Rome - where my father was going to be stationed at the United States Embassy for the next three years.
During our time in Rome I had the good fortune to meet the following:
- Two Popes - John XXIII and Paul VI
- One US Vice President - Lyndon B. Johnson.
- One US First Lady - Jackie Kennedy - twice!
- One US President - John F. Kennedy
I had a Forrest Gumpian childhood...
